No Data Center Citrus Endorses Diana Finegan and Dr. Holli Herndon for Citrus County Commission

Grassroots group says replacing pro-development commissioners is the only way to stop heavy industry rezoning, and prevent data centers in Citrus County.

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — No Data Center Citrus (NDC), a non-partisan grassroots organization opposing the rezoning of the Holder Industrial Park for a hyperscale data center, today announced its endorsement of Diana Finegan for Citrus County Commission, District 2, and Dr. Holli Herndon for Citrus County Commission, District 4.

The group says the endorsements reflect a message it has heard repeatedly from county residents: that the only way to stop over-development in Citrus County is to change the makeup of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) itself.

A Board Divided 2-3

Commissioner Finegan has frequently cast one of just two dissenting votes against a Board majority that has repeatedly approved development projects opposed by residents. No Data Center Citrus is urging voters to keep Finegan on the BOCC and to elect Dr. Holli Herndon in District 4, replacing Commissioner Rebecca Bays this August, in order to shift the balance of power on the Board.

District 2: Finegan vs. Chamber-Backed Opponent

The organization also pointed to what it describes as the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce’s role in pushing development countywide, and to ties between the Chamber and Finegan’s opponent, Stacey Worthington. According to No Data Center Citrus, the Chamber’s president has referred to Worthington as one of his “girls.”

Diana Finegan has been willing to stand up and vote against projects that aren’t in this county’s best interest, even when she’s outnumbered. That’s exactly the kind of independence we need more of. This August, we have a real chance to shift that balance with Dr. Holli Herndon in District 4. We’re asking every resident who cares about this county’s water, our land, and our future to get engaged and to vote like it matters — because it does.”

No Data Center Citrus is a grassroots campaign opposing the Deltona Corporation’s proposal to expand and rezone land adjacent to the Holder Industrial Park to Heavy Industrial use for a hyperscale AI data center. The organization is focused on protecting Citrus County’s water supply and aquifer, preventing noise and light pollution, limiting environmental and agricultural land impacts, and ensuring the county planning process reflects the will of residents rather than outside developers. We oppose the rezoning and want a permanent ban on data centers in Citrus County.
