Our Next Chapter: From One Fight to Ongoing Watch

Last month, the Planning and Development Commission voted 7–0 to deny the rezoning of 800+ acres for the Holder Park data center, and the Board of County Commissioners refused to grant a continuance. Facing that outcome, Deltona Corporation withdrew its application.

That result belongs to this community. Hundreds of residents signed petitions, showed up to meetings, and made their voices heard to commissioners. We’re grateful to everyone who took part.

But this fight also taught us something: by the time most residents learned about the Holder Park proposal, it was already well into the approval process. We don’t want to be in that position again.

So as well as keeping an eye on new data center applications, and advocating for an outright data center ban No Data Center Citrus is becoming something broader. We’re staying organized — not around one project, but as an ongoing watchdog for land use, zoning, and development decisions across Citrus County. That means:

• Spearheading an outright ban on all Data Centers over 3MW in Citrus County (3 MW being the upper limit of DC’s used in companies, hospitals, universities or other institutions.)
• Proposing strict ordinances and land use code regarding all data centers in Citrus County.
• Monitoring PDC and BOCC agendas for rezoning and land use items before they’re finalized
• Reviewing proposed ordinance changes that affect how land can be used
• Informing residents early, so the public has a real chance to weigh in — not just a chance to react
• Organizing public events and comment opportunities when new proposals come forward

Our name isn’t changing. Our mission is growing into what it was always pointing toward: making sure Citrus County residents have a real voice in decisions about our land, water, and community.
